Reporting Free-Text Comments from BPA for Thematic Analysis:
Nestoras Mathioudakis, MD, Johns Hopkins University, reviewed how to report data in Epic with the group. The12 step process with screenshots was provided as well as a corresponding Excel document, Thematic Analysis Data Collection.
The Excel document will need to be filled out locally at your center and returned to us, as a shared cloud version is not HIPAA compliant. Please find the excel document in the meeting follow-up email message or contact Tim for a new copy.
Shared utilization data from all centers
Dr. Mathioudakis reviewed the Breakthrough T1D Abstract that was submitted on 4/15/2026. In summary, the BPA triggered for 3,350 patients and clinicians took action on average, an astounding 78.7%.
Discussion occurred about how rich this data is and how it can help inform future interventions.
Discuss finalization of the codebook
The Codebook is nearly finalized. Dr. Mathioudakis reminded the group that “NOS” means Not Otherwise Specified.
Abha Choudhary, MD, suggested an additional condition that isn’t being captured accurately by the codebook. There is consensus among the group to add additional options for patient declining : 3.5.4, as well as additional options for caregivers not providing consent, 2.4.2, 2.4.3 and 2.3.3: “Too many social challenges at the time”
This now finalized version will be distributed to the group in the meeting follow-up email. The sooner this data is completed, the better it will be for creating abstracts. Please reach out to Tim if you need another copy.
Closing:
We would like to identify people from this group for authorship opportunities. Please email Tim and Ori if you would like to be a part of this publication aiming for Diabetes Care.
