Beta Cell Preservation Spec Document Review

The group reviewed the draft Beta Cell Preservation Specification document and discussed the timeline for implementation.

  • James shared an Excel draft of the Beta Cell Preservation Specification document, which incorporated feedback from previous discussions.
  • Meeting time was used to review the document and identify additional comments and revisions.
  • Please access the draft here: Copy of Draft Beta Cell Preservation Project Spec1.xlsx
  • Team members are added as commenters to provide feedback and suggestions.
    • Please attach your comments to the offline copy if you don’t have SharePoint access.

Discussion Items

  • Hold off on Stage 3 until the group is ready to incorporate it into the general data specification.
  • Ensure teplizumab is spelled correctly throughout the document.
  • If "family member" is selected, an additional field should appear to specify the type of family member (branching logic).
    • Confirm with Anton and James whether it would be preferable to collect a simple yes/no response rather than specifying the family member type.

Publications Update

David Broome shared updates

  • Laura Jacobsen is resubmitting to Endocrine Practice
  • Once the manuscript has been resubmitted, a PDF version will be shared with the broader group

Diabetes Leadership Council (DLC) of Boston: Early T1D Detection

  • On May 20, Nicole met with the DLC of Boston on the topic of Early T1D Detection
  • The DLC has hosted four of these meetings around the country and have 1-2 more planned
  • Presenters included Raymond Kreinenkamp from Boston Children’s and Jason Gaglia from Beth Israel Lahey Health Joslin Diabetes Center
  • The DLC is working to advance state legislation supporting diabetes screening within school systems
  • 23 states have this in place (MA does not)
  • More opportunities for us to work with them and learn from each other
  • They weren't specific on the type of screening, but it would be through school nurses (not clear if it is referral or performing the screening themselves)
  • Unclear about compensation for nurses
  • The group discussed the possibility of meeting with the DLC to share T1D Exchange's work and the related white paper
