Meeting Highlights

  • Publication Announcement: A paper involving nine registries is scheduled for publication in Lancet Endocrinology within the next 2-4 weeks.
  • Research Collaboration: A comparison study focusing on older adults’ data in relation to the DPV is currently underway.
  • Leadership Transition: Dr. Reinhard Holl is transferring leadership of the DPV to Dr. Stefanie Lanzinger.
  • Future Research Opportunities: Discussions will be held with Dr. Lanzinger regarding potential ideas for an additional paper involving the nine registries.
  • T1D Screening Initiative: Dr. DeSalvo expressed interest in developing a comparative study centered on T1D screening, stages of the disease, and T-zeal adoption rates. This may begin with a comparison with DPV and potentially expand to include eight other registries.
  • Non-Adjunctive Medication Use: There was a discussion on the use of non-adjunctive medications in T1D, including GLP-1 and SGLT inhibitors. Dr. Sarah Lyons is leading research in this area and may be interested in a comparison paper with international registries.
  • Early CGM and AID Systems adoption: The group discussed the adoption of CGM and AID systems during the new-onset period of T1D and their implications for A1c levels and time in range outcomes. This aligns with ongoing research by Dr. Priya Prahalad and Dr. Liz Mann in collaboration with T1D Exchange.

Action Items

  • Follow-Up Actions:
    • Dr. Maahs will connect with Dr. Kathryn Fantasia regarding the older adults’ comparison study with DPV.
    • Dr. DeSalvo will prepare a one-page document outlining T1D screening, stages, and T-zeal adoption rates.
    • Dr. DeSalvo will also reach out to Dr. Lyons to explore collaboration on non-adjunctive medication use in T1D.
    • Saketh will follow up with Dr. Prahalad and Dr. Mann about leading an international comparison paper on CGM and AID adoption rates in new-onset T1D.
  • Quality Improvement Initiative: After the publication of the nine registries paper, the QI team will gather research questions from Principal Investigators (PIs) within the collaborative to explore potential studies using the collaborative data.
  • Learning Session Proposal: Consider organizing a breakout session during the learning session where PIs can discuss and propose ideas for international comparisons.
