Nursing separation between normal endo and diabetes patients
Question:
- We are trying to restructure our clinic RN staff at Rady’s. Our clinic RNs currently carry diabetes patients as well as endocrine patients. We are wondering if other centers within the exchange have their nursing staff separated into diabetes educators with separate endocrine nurses. And are there separate diabetes educators in addition to staff RNs?

Our clinic (Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital) has our staff separated into diabetes educators (there are 8 of us) and endocrine nurses (there are 4 endo nurses). The endo nurses only do endocrine patient care and the diabetes educators (RN or RD) only provide assistance with diabetes patients. Feel free to reach out if you have more questions!
