3. Review of Manuscripts in Progress
(Co-Chairs)
- Participants provided updates on active/published manuscripts.
- Updates are reflected in the final slide deck.
Diabetes, Obesity, and Cardiometabolic CARE Journal Discussion
- Noted that other ADA subcommittees have observed a growing focus on obesity, metabolism, and primary care.
- The group discussed the possibility of identifying alternative journals depending on alignment with manuscript focus.
- Members were asked to share feedback regarding prior submission experiences to this journal.
- We can publish in this journal, but continue thinking about other journals going forward
Claire will share the journal spreadsheet in the follow-up email.
4. ADA Contributions (Dr. Akturk)
- Request to break down ADA contributions by pediatric vs. adult representation.
Action: Claire will provide ADA contribution breakdown by peds/adult.
5. 2025 Publication Reports (Claire)
- Center-level engagement and publication reports will be distributed by the end of the month.
6. Discussion: Junior Faculty & Trainee Engagement Strategy
(Facilitated by Dr. Crossen)
Discussion focused on building sustainability and strengthening engagement among junior faculty and trainees.
Key Themes
- Increase comfort with requesting letters of support (junior faculty and fellows)
- Encourage Learning Session attendance
- Identify barriers to attendance (e.g., cost)
- Consider hosting a training-stage lunch at the Learning Session
- Recognize trainee abstracts
- Offer travel grants for the top three trainee QI abstracts (trainee as first author)
- Explore development of a trainee workgroup
- Highlight available QI training opportunities (e.g., Don Buckingham’s twice-yearly QI bootcamp)
- Encourage full team participation in meetings and manuscript development
- Support junior faculty in completing manuscripts, with junior faculty serving as first author when appropriate
Next Steps to Explore:
- Feasibility of trainee recognition and travel awards
- Barriers to Learning Session attendance
- Potential incorporation into Clinical Leadership discussions (twice per year)
7. Arms-Length Connections & Feasibility
Discussion included:
- Developing a list of potential references
- Ensuring no overlap/conflict of interest
- Collecting name, current rank, and academic track of eligible individuals
- Creating templates to reduce administrative burden
- Considering discussion with Clinical Leadership twice per year
