Final Annual Survey (Equity Questions) Review

  • The first question uses the WHO definition of health equity.
  • One suggestion is to change the question to a “check all that apply” format to gather more information on how institutions are addressing equity.
  • This would provide context beyond a simple “yes” or “no” answer.
  • Nicole suggests including a link to the full citation for the WHO definition.
  • The current survey uses branching logic, where a “no” answer prevents further questions.
  • There are 63 centers that will receive the survey.
  • The survey already has a section addressing the “big beautiful bill” and asks about its impact.
  • The survey asks about events in 2024, but the economics question covers January to June 2025.

Brainstorming Ways to Address Equity in Annual Survey

The team brainstormed examples of ways to address equity to include in the survey.

Suggestions include:

  • Diabetes technology
  • Outreach clinics
  • Telemedicine
  • Access to medications
  • Uncompensated care

Built environment/social determinants of health:

  • Housing
  • Food security
  • Transportation
  • Case management
  • Health literacy

Concern about the current political climate and its impact on health equity.

Suggestion to include something related to political challenges, immigration support, or support for unfunded patients (uninsured/underinsured).

Using the term “unfunded” might make people more comfortable answering the question.

Economics Questions Feedback

  • Preliminary questions focused on financial components that have changed since January 2025, overall direction, and impact policies (federal healthcare costs, Medicare, Medicaid).
  • Questions about revenue policies, ACA changes, grants, Medicaid, Medicare, private insurance, uninsured cost reduction, expanding service lines, mergers, partnerships.
  • Questions about policies that have impacted or are anticipated to impact (HR1, NIH productions, federal funding productions).
  • There is a plan to repeat these questions every six months for the next three years to track trends and impacts, creating a baseline for comparison.
  • Separate questions into academic level, hospital level, and clinic level to get more specific answers.
  • Focus questions on the ability to provide diabetes care.
