T2D Pediatric Working Group 12/12/2024: 2:00pm
Attendees: Timothy Bol, Monica Bianco, Ryan Brad, Lily Chao, Preneet Cheema Brar, Kristina Cossen, Sean Delacey, Carla Demeterco-Berggren, Noha Marwan El Yaman, Alissa Guarneri, Tamara Hannon, Rohan Henry, Jessica Johnson, Grace Kim, Leena Mamilly, Liz Mann, Ori Odugbesan, Nicole Rioles, Cintya Schweisberger, Tossaporn Seeherunvong, Mili Vakharia
Introductions were made and new attendees were welcomed the Working Group.
The updated KDD from last meeting was reviewed, with questions about the medications being addressed. The Group acknowledged that the 10% figure may be difficult for places that are already prescribing a lot of it.
Discussion occurred about the challenges of measuring and tracking compliance, as well as the changes to the primary and secondary change ideas to make the these more general concepts to avoid being overly specific. Ideas about technology were suggested as well as adding in a SDoH box, and the importance of education, mental health, and even exercise and physiology.
A question was asked about next steps, Nicole mentioned she would like to see new PDSAs developed in the secondary drivers interventions and then work at change drivers, but for next meeting let’s review PDSAs. The Group was also reminded to ensure they can effectively track data and a request and to put effort into that if they are unable.
It was suggested that if there are any ideas worth sharing to please let the group know. An idea was shared that involved pharmacy techs and better prescription management. The details have not yet been worked out, but there is a QI idea there. Another idea was tracking how many people are taking GLP as opposed to tracking just who is being prescribed, because not all people who are prescribed a medication take it. Another group is also looking at prescription rates, for how long they take it, and if they’re using it or not.
Two main things that can also be worked on are provider attitudes and patient attitudes, medication side effects, and a multidisciplinary approach.
To recap: focus on data sharing, create PDSAs for next meeting, invite other team members to join the Working Group, and we will continue to develop and share resources.
