T1D Screening and Monitoring Project meeting 2/9/24 2:00 PM ET

Participants: Dr. Carla Demeterco-Berggren; Dr. Laura Jacobsen; Dr. Osagie Ebekozien; Ann Mungmode; Emma Ospelt

Minutes:

Welcome and Updates:

• Invoice reminder
• Visit to University of Florida to visit Dr. Jacobsen’s clinic coming this spring/summer
• Sanofi funding to expand pilot to 5 more centers. Kickoff in May

Fishbone diagrams

• Jacobsen walking through Florida’s fishbone
  • Problem statement: lack of consistent Aab screening that is clinical based (instead of research based)
  • Hurdles with reimbursement and insurance beyond relatives
  • Anxiety assessment as well
  • Need for protocol for relatives vs non relatives
  • In patient chart-track if family has been screened
  • Need to identify staff support
• Codes needed for primary care to screen clinically
• Paper summarizing annual survey screening data and initial process maps and fishbone for two pilot clinics
• Demeterco-Berggren walked through fishbone
  • Problem statement: need process to standardize workflow to identify and test 1^st degree relatives
  • Equity is important

Project measures

• Smartsheet reviewed and feedback shared-make minor changes
  • Clearly designate that we want confirmed AA
  • Suggestion to change ‘and’ to ‘or’ in stages 2 and 3
  • Follow up for stage 3 – at this point patient would get incorporated into clinical care, less about monitoring
• Qualtrics questions review
  • DKA can be yes or no
  • Expand option – Research monitoring and trials
  • This would be completed when have confirmed labs
