Agenda
- Publications updates
- Upcoming Conferences
- Updates for November LS
- Committee Process Decisions
- Process for Selecting Journals
- Trying to think about what the future publication is for the T1D exchange.
- Currently majority of the publications are going to like DTT clinical diabetes, JDST, some pediatric diabetes and maybe a few diabetes care.
- We may be able to push up further, JAMA etc.
- Power longitudinal analyses that the T1D exchange can do. It’s so much data over so many years that a lot of other kind of higher impact collaboratives don’t have.
- Potentially have more research protocols and maybe more implementation science based, so not really just in a research vacuum, but really trying to forward care.
- Process for Selecting Journals
- Middle Author Management
- Does the stats person become second or third author? That’s usually pretty custom standard. Are the rest of the authors alphabetical? Do you decide first, second and senior based on their contributions?
- A question was brought up – to that point on authorship order, thinks most institutions for academic promotion, are really about first and last authors? One answer, thinks it used to be first and senior author were counted the most depending on your junior assistant
- Follow up to question – thinks they want more first authors and then as you became senior associate, they think more of them would be expected to be senior authors.
- answer to question – where they are in the order doesn’t matter, especially these multi-institutional ones. If it’s a middle author, it’s one category. If it’s first and last, it’s one category. PI said So with that, I think what’s proposed here makes good sense and I vote for whatever is on the slide here.
- comment made – clearly a goal is for us to support our junior faculty so that they can continue to get promoted.
- could potentially put an Asterix saying that we equally led this paper.
- Promoting co-first authors for the purposes of career development. I do think it’s important, however, when and if we do that, that the two co-first authors who are candidates for that role, agree in the beginning that if a journal does not accept co-first authors, who will get the first author position so that there are no surprises along the path. Also what happens if you are co-authors, but how do you decide whose name shows up first? is that alphabetical now or what? Says we can make note of this in part of our policy.
- Also we need to think about corresponding author, because some people have put forward over the years that if the senior author is not the corresponding author, which often is the case ,So maybe the second author, second co-first author, becomes the corresponding author?
- We need to communicate so we are very clear about what is going to be done and how the work is going to be divided and what is going to happen if you don’t get into a certain journal.
